Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings premiered this year to positive reviews, and today, Marvel has made it official that we’ll get another Shang-Chi film sometime in the future with filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton again on board to write and direct.
The new Shang-Chi movie isn’t the only Disney project Cretton will be working on, however. Deadline broke the news today that Cretton has signed an exclusive multi-year deal with two of Disney’s companies: Marvel and Hulu’s Onyx Collective.

“Destin is an amazing collaborator who brought a unique perspective and skill to Shang-Chi and The Legend of the Ten Rings,” said Kevin Feige, the President and Marvel Chief Creative Officer of Marvel. “We had a fantastic time working together on the film and he has so many intriguing ideas for stories to bring to life on Disney+, so we’re thrilled to expand our relationship with him and can’t wait to get started.”
In addition to the Shang-Chi sequel, which will undoubtedly again star Simi Liu as Shang-Chi and Awakfina as his best friend Katy, Cretton is also working on an unknown Disney+ MCU series. While we don’t have details on what that series will cover, we do know thanks to Deadline that Cretton’s new production company is set to focus on “projects that highlight the experiences of communities that have traditionally been overlooked by pop culture.”
No news yet on when the Shang-Chi sequel is set to come out, but given the current MCU film slate, it will likely be a few years.
